After deciding for a dog, I started to research tons of dog breeds. I had many desires about how I would wish my dog to be, although it sounds superficial at the first moment. Anyway, it is also very important for the dog and not only for us as a family.
My dog should neither be big nor small and it should be an active animal in order to do jogging and/ or agility. There were many more things to consider and that I realized when I started to do tests in the internet. There are many awesome tests that really helped me to understand what I DID NOT want.
Thus, I show you some of the ones I found the most useful for me.
Test which dog breed fits for you
Pedigree breed match test
The test of Pedigree is nice to start your research with. I really liked that it includes the most important aspects as how active a dog should be, the age of people of the house etc. It’s a basic test and in the result it shows you several breeds to consider.

Dogtime Dog Breed Selector
The test of Dogtime is really fun to do, because the answers are quite creative. I enjoyed answering the questions a lot. Anyway, the test considers the character of dogs a lot because there are several smart questions like “How do you react when another driver cuts you off while you’re on the highway?”. I loved that one (btw :D). It does not only consider your desires, but also your character!
IAMS Breed Selector
The test from IAMS is well done in the point of presentation, but I always had to scroll down in order to hit the button. That’s the only really negative point in usability. This test is focused on your needs and as the result it represents the dog that matches with most answered questions. When you scroll down, there are other dogs that you can consider.

Select a dog breed – Several tests in order to find the right breed
Selectadogbreed.com offers a variety of tests and information about different breeds. The tests I have done are very complete and consider most of the important aspects of a dog. You can also compare different breeds and in the result you see the compatibility and alternative breeds.

AKC Breed Selector
AKC offers a rather small test, but it’s perfect for a first impression of dog breeds. After finishing the fast test, several dog breeds are shown and you can click on them in order to see details.
Purina dog breeds – Breed selector
Purina does not only consider your needs, but I especially liked the “hypoallergenic” option. I don’t think that there was this possibility in the other tests. After finishing the tests the results are shown in a very detailed way. Every breed is listed with the points it fulfills and the ones it does not.

Quick test – WHich dog is right for you
The last test is a quick one that’s done in a lovely way. According to your answers you get a breed shown in the result and a fast summary of its characteristics.

Breeds here, there and everywhere
After doing all the tests, I ended up more confused than before and redid them again. If you really need help in order to choose a breed, you should write down the results of different tests and compare them later. For example, many tests showed me that a Border Collie is not the right breed for me, and other ones showed it as the perfect match.
I think that different tests value points differently and that’s why you should always carefully investigate the characteristics of a breed on several pages. Also reviews from owners of the breed are essential in order to understand a breed.
