Finally, I found a cute puppy. The owner offered to pick me up in a park and drive after him. The road to his house would be a bit curvy he commented. For a German that sounds damn weird, but here in Spain it is not that strange. For example, in Asturias some street numbers are still assigned meters from the beginning of the street. For example, my street is 150 meters from the beginning of the street. Especially in the more rural areas there is number 90 and this is followed by number 214. Really confusing at the beginning! Back to the topic: So I waited at the agreed time and it started with a Spanish delay of 15 minutes. Through the city center of Villaviciosa (a small town near the sea) we came to a rather dirty street covered with branches of trees. It felt as if we were driving hundreds of kilometers (without side barriers!) up the mountains. After a short time I realized that I wouldn't want to go back here again. Not EVER!
Wild puppies rocking the untouched nature
After about 10 minutes, we finally drove through a small village and there was actually life there! Well, I thought: He'll probably live here. Not even close! After the brief glimmer of light I went straight onto a very narrow street and I hoped the whole time that no car would come from the other direction. At least I was on the side protected by the mountain. We crossed another village and my hopes went high again... But no! After 25 minutes on the probably most dangerous route of my life, I finally arrived at my destination! Wow... I definitely didn't want this route twice drive. At that time it was already clear to me that the dog mom was living an original life. Surrounded by green grass, it was the ideal place for sheep. And I was absolutely right! When I got out of the car, the owner greeted me with a big grin and when I commented that the road had had some curves, he just laughed. He probably thought I was a "city kid". But no ... Even a German village child does not know such routes! We got to the dogs over a meadow and to be honest, I was sad at first. The mom was in one kennel and her little ten week old pups in another one. Everything was nice and clean, huge and well-kept, but a little mom love can't hurt even at ten weeks. When the little ones were allowed out of the kennel, fast rascals ran directly towards the field and raged around wildly. It was a huge challenge to catch details of the dogs.
A little Asturian with tons of energy
The little bitch with her stain just looked too cute. She stood out between her brothers because she was a little smaller, but in terms of energy she wasn't inferior to them. Fascinated, I watched as the owner showed me how well the children's mother guarded the sheep and I decided to buy the little bitch. All of the dogs were examined, vaccinated and dewormed by the vet. Since I really didn't want to drive this route at all ever again (what a nightmare!), I decided to do the little with me.
A route that does not only irritate my stomach
I took the little bitch with me in a small box that was placed over an old blanket. After a few minutes, she started to throw up, but I can't blame her for that! I was sick on such a route and how should a little bitch feel who has never been in the car? But I have to say that she behaved very well. Unfortunately, that was probably due to the fear she had. And how lovesick must the little creature be? After a stop at the pet shop we were finally able to go home and I fell in love with the name Xana (spoken: Schana). This is Asturian and means “fairy”. This is what she looked like in the fields before - like a little wild fairy.
A kid that cannot believe that there is a dog
I hadn’t said where I went. If I hadn’t bought Xana, she would have been sad. Before the meeting, I washed her with water in high summer temperatures. When I screamed her name, she greeted me completely puzzled and stared in confusion at the little dog that was wrapped in a towel. The dogkid whispered: “Is this our dog now?” Her eyes started to shine in excitement.
The first hours in the new home
Of course, the little Border Collie was super confused. We let Xana explore the large garden that would remind her most of her home. She started to cut, but not to eat our grass. Well, at least she already started to help me with my garden! :D We offered her a bone and she started to bite it enthusiastically. After the long drive in the car she was super tired and it was late too. We offered her water and food before going to sleep. She ate like crazy(her stomach was empty after throwing up anyway!) Then we showed her the sleeping place that was furnished with a comfortable pillow. Wow, she fell in love with this soft thing and didn't want to get out of the box.
