Using the internet in order to find a Border Collie
There is a huge selection of Border Collies here in Asturias, as they are still actively used as herding animals here. Many advertisements were from other provinces of Spain, including those stating "located in Asturias. But it was clear to me that I wanted to see where the dog is from before buying it.
I wanted to see where the dog lives and I did not want to support a industry where the dogs grow up in small cages and the mothers give birth like crazy. That was out of the question for me. I also found it very questionable that the owners send their dogs to people they don't even know and that they don't care about the fate of the little ones in general.
Adopt or shop?
For a while, I kept wavering between adopting and buying. With a child in the house, I decided to buy a puppy as it would be easier to manage with consistent training from the beginning. There were beautiful young dogs, but after doing some research I realized that the young dogs that had previously been improperly trained would be harder to manage for my daughter.
If the dog had been just for me, I would have adopted a dog. Unfortunately, there was no puppy for adoption at that time. Nonetheless, I always advise adoption, especially for dogs that come to a farm. The border collie is a born guardian and can still be wonderfully trained for this task.
Finding our new family member
And then I found our future bitch ... On an advertising platform on the Internet. Without knowing where to look, it was really difficult - especially in Covid times.
I got in contact with several owners and was thrilled with a litter of Border Collies. The owner sent a video of the litter in which there were three boys and one girl. I was excited and fell in love with the asymmetry of the bitch. The little lively puppies jumped around enthusiastically.
So I waited excitedly to get to know the little creature.
and can still be wonderfully trained for this task over several years.
